Rio de Janeiro

Located in southeastern Brazil is the city of Rio de Janeiro. For people of the area, Rio de Janeiro is often times referred to as the Marvelous City. With a population of just over six million people, Rio de Janeiro is one of the most highly populated cities in South America. The good thing is that all of these people bring a unique feel to the culture of Rio de Janeiro. And this is one reason that the tourism industry in this city is among the best in the world. Every year thousands of people head for Rio de Janeiro to soak up the atmosphere.

If you are heading to Rio de Janeiro to have fun, which you probably are, you will want to go during the Carnival. Every year this carnival brings in thousands of people from every nook in the world. During the festivities music is playing, people are eating, and fun is being had by all. Some years a single day could bring in as many as 200,000 participants. You can probably imagine just how much fun this is! 

A big part of life in Rio de Janeiro is sports. The most popular one being soccer, but this is not the only option in this city. Other popular sports include beach football and volleyball, as well as motor racing. In addition, rowing and sailing are very popular in the ocean. You should look into all of these sports if you are in Rio de Janeiro; either to take part, or to simply sit back and watch. 

And of course a trip to Rio de Janeiro would not be complete unless you visited the beaches in the area. They are among the best in South America, and offer magnificent views. While on the beach you can either sit back and relax, or have some fun in the water. The choice is yours; just make sure that you have time to spend on the beach. 

Rio de Janeiro has a tropical climate, and temperatures can get very hot throughout the year. During the summer it is not uncommon for temperatures to go over the 100 degree Fahrenheit mark. Even during the winter months you should only expect temperatures to drop into the 60s. 

International flights in and out of Rio de Janeiro are taken care of at the Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport. For smaller planes and flights to nearby locations there are two other airports in Rio de Janeiro
